Norfolk Southern Nickel Plate Road Heritage Locomotive

As part of their celebration of the 30th anniversary of the merger of the Norfolk Western and Southern railroads, the Norfolk Southern painted 20 of its new locomotives in the colors of its predecessor railroads - the Nickel Plate Road being one of those roads. The Nickel Plate Road locomotive is finished and is currently in service as seen in the slideshow below. The unit is a General Electric Evolution Series ES44AC 4400HP locomotive. The photos were taken between April 6 and April 9 at the harbor in Ashtabula, OH on the 8100's first days in service. Many Thanks to the contributors to our slideshow!

For more information on the heritage program and the other predecessor railroads represented, please visit the NS website at http://www.nscorp.com. Many thanks to the Norfolk Southern for honoring the Nickel Plate Road with this locomotive.
