Front: For fifteen winters they labored, earning the Nickel Plate's passenger service a loyal and devoted following and a sterling reputation, and in so doing became the Nickel Plate's most beloved diesels. In an oft-repeated winter scene, a well kept pair of Bluebirds add their bit to the story.

Back: The GP7 began the history of Nickel Plate freight dieselization. Never as numerous as their kid brothers, the GP9s, the GP7s nevertheless demonstrated the flexibility of the road switcher concept and fit admirably into a roster of practical, functional locomotives both steam and diesel. The 426 and the 443 handle Wheeling District freight in an undated view at Canton.
