Tack Board- questions from readers

Front: If one steam engine was good, two were even better. Few things can match the sight and sound of a steam doubleheader. Only on the Wheeling District did terrain and tonnage require their use. Doubleheaders on the Nickel Plate District primarily balanced power. S-2's 762 and 759 take a breather in this undated scene. In this issue Don Flegal recounts a boyhood ride on a Cleveland doubleheader.

Back: In its final winter, the Nickel Plate took delivery of 175 50-foot insulated plug-door boxcars such as the 84184, seen here in 1969. The cars have been off the revenue roster for years, but one still exists in a Moberly, Missouri salvage yard. See "Along the Line" for details.
