Car 831 - letters to the Editor

Tack Board- questions from readers

Front: The preservation of wooden cabooses can be quite an undertaking. Just as the Mad River and NKP Museum did an outstanding restoration of the 1047 several years ago, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society is doing a rebuild of NKP 141, the only known original LE&W caboose. The century-old car looked like this last September. Odds are the 141 will look like new when she sees sunlight.

Back: The Nickel Plate's Lorain depot, located at the NKP-B&O crossing west of the Black River bridge, was a very interesting piece of architecture. The "L"-shaped building had fallen on hard times by the time of this December 1982 photo, and would soon be demolished. In this issue, Jim Mihalek recreates the structure in its glory days.
