NKProducts - product reviews

  • Book Review - "The American Railway Association Standard Box Car of 1932" by Theodore J. Culotta
  • Walthers 6-pack of Nickel Plate USRA 50-ton hoppers in their "Gold Series"
Front: The lease of the Wheeling & Lake Erie in 1949 introduced two previously unknown USRA locomotive designs to the Nickel Plate. By far the more conventional was the heavy Mikado; the Wheeling had been allocated twenty. Example 681, originally W&LE 6011, Brooks class of '18, would serve the Nickel Plate until 1955.

Back: The Nickel Plate, along with several other properties, often specified black ends on its boxcar purchases and repairs. Brand-new insulated plug-door NKP 84017 is a typical example, but not every car followed this tradition. This issue's "Tack Board" seeks to make sense of this practice and asks for your help.
