Front: Right from the beginning, Bellevue was the heart of the Nickel Plate. The city assumed added importance after the Nickel Plate acquired the Clover Leaf and the Lake Erie & Western -- and, later, the Wheeling & Lake Erie. Many of the original facilities, such as these, became Bellevue landmarks as they served the Nickel Plate for over six decades.

Back:By the time of this 1951 aerial view, the effects of the Nickel Plate's postwar physical plant investment are plain to see. The new roundhouse, power plant, office building and improvements to the ice house and yards have made Bellevue a first-rate terminal. No longer could it be said that the Nickel Plate's success came in spite of, rather that because of, its physical plant.
