the St. Louis and Peoria areas are consolidated and classified there for points on the Sandusky and Toledo Divisions and beyond, and trains from the east are broken up or consolidated there for dispatching either toward St. Louis or Peoria.
Between 25 and 35 Nickel Plate trains move in and out of Frankfort daily.
The mechanical facilities there are among the largest on the system. The roundhouse has become a busy diesel center, as all four divisions terminating there are now dieselized. Some steam locomotives still may be seen, however as the back shop is used to maintain both types of power. Both heavy and light repairs are made in the car facilities.
