As President L. L. White announced in the last issue of our Magazine, the Nickel Plate planned to start piggy-back service about June 16. Shortly before that date, however, the Interstate Commerce Commission suspended the tariffs for the new service. For nearly a month the Road waited. The I. C. C. finally gave the Nickel Plate the green light to initiate this service on July 12, and before nightfall the Road had its first piggy-back shipment moving from Cleveland to Chicago. The speed with which this first shipment was handled shows the potential of the new service.
