NKPHTS 2006 Convention Contest Rules

MODEL CONTEST

All who register for the convention are invited and encouraged to enter models in the Annual NKPHTS Model Contest and Exhibit. Society members and guests are qualified to enter regardless of age as long as they created the final model. Entries may be in any scale, but must be of a Nickel Plate or predecessor prototype. Eight categories will be offered and contest entries will be judged by popular vote.

    1) Steam Locomotives
    2) Diesel Locomotives
    3) Freight Cars
    4) Passenger Cars
    5) Maintenance of Way & Non-Revenue Cars
    6) Cabooses
    7) Structures
    8) Dioramas*

*Those entering the diorama category may enter the components of the diorama in other categories.

Kits, scratch built, kit-bashed, modified, repainted, re-lettered or weathered ready to run models may be entered. AN NMRA score sheet will be placed with each entry to fully describe model construction and finish.

The "Best of Show" award will be based on popular vote. All awards will be given at the banquet.

Those wishing to only exhibit their models and not qualify for the popular vote may do so.

PHOTO CONTEST

All who register for the convention are invited and encouraged to enter photos they have taken, whether amateur or professional, regardless of age, or type of camera used, in the annual NKPHTS Photo Contest. Society members and guests are qualified to enter. Judging will be by popular vote. Locomotives, rolling stock, structures, people, trackside scenery, etc. are all acceptable rail subjects, but all entries must pertain to the NKP or its predecessors (W&LE, LE&W, Clover Leaf, etc.). N&W subjects are only acceptable if formerly NKP or predecessor and if taken after the October 16, 1964 merger date.

Awards will be given at the banquet in nine classes:

  1. Color print of prototype subject taken prior to 10/16/64
  2. Black & white print of prototype subject taken prior to 10/16/64
  3. Color slide of prototype subject taken prior to 10/16/64

  4. Color print of prototype subject taken on or after 10/16/64
  5. Black & white print of prototype subject taken on or after 10/16/64
  6. Color slide of prototype subject taken on or after 10/16/64

  7. Color print of model subject
  8. Black & white print of model subject
  9. Color slide of model subject

Prints must be at least 5X7 and slides just be in 2 X 2 mounts. Only one entry in each class may be made by each registrant.

At the discretion of the Convention Committee and Model Coordinator, consideration may be given to establishing a class or classes for digital prints and computer enhanced photos.
